Grimmer wins California Silver Rush

On April 16th Nick Grimmer become the first Australian since Finn Marsland in the mid 90s to win the California Silver Rush. The Silver Rush is a 30km event held in conjunction with the 45km Gold Rush. Grimmer started strong and soon developed a comfortable lead winning by over eight minutes.

“I was very happy with the results, i had only skied once since February 28th and with the race being held at an altitude over 2000 meters I did not think a good result possible. The race started simultaneously with the 45km Gold Rush and i skied the first 5km in the top pack before dropping back to around 6th overall. It was great to be able to turn into the finish after 30km and i did not envy the rest of my pack as they continued on to do another lap. ”

Nick’s sister Abbey also raced the Silver Rush and finished 5th whilst her new husband Alex was 8th. Nick’s mum raced the shorter bronze rush and finished 10th. No other Australians competed.
