Clean Out The Cobwebs 2011

The race was held on the 5km course, which was in good shape despite the thinning conditions. With cloudy, windy conditions and above zero degrees, the track became slow just before the race, which is reflected in the times (and no doubt, no-one wanting to put the ‘good stuff’ under their skis). Simbo showed that he is made of the ‘right stuff’ (whatever that is) but Callum ensured that it was no walk in the park by pushing him all the way to the finish. Jane Sheer was the first female, demonstrating that all that secret training is paying off! It was great to see so many younger skiers in the race, with Hamish Roberts (14 years old), Liam Burton (13) and Alex Lewis (15) finishing 4th, 5th and 6th being the standout performances. All-in-all it was a great first ‘hit-out’ for the year. Prior to the race the passing of Ross Martin was remembered. Ross would normally have been in this race, and his absence leaves a huge gap in the XC community. I would love to be able to say one day that I have been ski racing for 50 years! Thanks Ross.

Thanks to Kylie Jonasson and Felicia Auer for their assistance in running the race.
