2012 Australian Sprint Freestyle Championship – Results

The first races of the 2012 Australian Championship for Cross Country Skiing took place last weekend at Perisher Valley. The Freestyle Sprint was on Saturday and there was plenty of close and exciting racing. The Open Men A-Final was won by Alex Almoukov, just ahead of fastest qualifier Phillip Bellingham and a fast finishing Callum Watson. The highest ranked U20 skier in finals (and hence the Australian Junior Champion) was Damon Morton. In the A-Final for the Open Women Esther Bottomley won ahead of the Australian Junior Champion Lucy Glanville, with another junior Anna Trnka third.

Rocky Valley Rush on Sunday August 5

The 2012 Rocky Valley Rush and Sun Valley Ramble events are on this Sunday 5th August at Falls Creek. Held in freestyle technique, race distances are 14km and 7km respeectively. On-line entries close on Saturday at 6 p.m.  ($20 for adults, $10 for U/20). Late entries will be accepted on the day, but with an extra $10 added onto the race fee.

Vic Skichase: Changes to Age and Place Points calculation

The previous ski chase age points calculation was tough on anyone under 30 years of age. We have come up with a new system that recognises that natural sporting ability increases rapidly with age up to about the mid 20’s and decreases slowly from about the mid-30’s.

Now we have a fairer competition for everyone.  Both age and place points formulae are given below.

2012 Victorian Junior Championship Results

The Victorian Junior Championships for cross country skiing were held at Falls Creek last weekend, organised by the Wangaratta Ski Club. All results are linked below in PDF format. In the Open Junior Men Sprint on Saturday July 21 Alasdair Tutt won the time trial and the A-final, while in the Open Junior Women Sprint Xanthea Dewez won the time trial but Anna Trnka won the A-final. On Sunday July 22 Nick Montgomery won the 10km Freestyle despite taking a wrong turn after the first lap and having to back-track his way to the lap lane, and Anna Trnka won the 5km Freestyle.

ACT Championship Results

Apologies for the late post, the ACT Championships took place at Perisher Valley on Saturday July 14. In the Open Women 5km Classic Brooke Darlington won ahead of Lucy Glanville and Jillian Colebourn. Callum Watson won the Open Men 10km Classic before Damon Morton and Mark van der Ploeg. NSW Championship – Results

The NSW Distance Championship events took place at Perisher Valley on Sunday July 15. The Open Women 10km Freestyle was won by Brooke Darlington. The Open Men 15km Freestyle was won by Damon Morton. See full results in PDF format below.

Results – HGA Races 2012

The Howmans Gap Allstars conducted their annual races at Falls Creek this weekend, the Snowgum Wodonga High Plains Tour and the YMCA Howmans Gap Victorian Interclub Relays. In the 10km Freestyle on Saturday Ben Derrick knocked off Phillip Bellingham, while Esther Bottomley won ahead of Anna Trnka. On Sunday Phillip set up the relay win for Birkebeiner (Team: Bellingham-Tutt-Grimmer) by skiing away from BD from Wangaratta (Team: Derrick-Dickinson-Pollock) on the opening 5km classic leg. It was Birkebeiner 1-2 in the women’s event, with the combination of Jacinta O’Neill, Ellie Phillips and Lescinska Grimmer winning ahead of Allison Stoddart, Belinda Phillips and Alice Hamilton.

Hotham to Dinner Plain Pub to Pub Update
