Snow Farm FIS Races 2012

The FIS Australia – New Zealand Continental Cup headed over to the Snow Farm in New Zealand last week, with races on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Australian Team members Callum and Aimee Watson travelled over to compete, and came up against strong competition from Japan, Russia, Czech and Poland.

Callum finished 8th in the 15km Classic, 7th in the Freestyle Sprint, and 11th in the 10km Freestyle. Kreczmer from Poland won the two distance races and Petukhov from Russia won the Sprint. Aimee was 4th in the 10km Classic, 5th in the Freestyle Sprint and 8th in the 5km Freestyle, with Kowalczyk from Poland winning all three events.

SAXC Announces 2013 World Junior Coach & Manager

The Ski & Snowboard Australia Cross Country Committee (SAXC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Grimmer and Allison Stoddart as coach and manager of the Australian Team for the 2013 World Junior/U23 Championship in Liberec in the Czech Republic. Nick and Allison will lead the Australian Junior Team to Europe in the lead-up to the championship, and also oversee athlete preparation in Australia this spring.

The preliminary plan for the Australian Junior Team is to train and compete in central Europe for a six week period before heading across to Liberec. Training locations and competitions are being finalised in consultation between Nick and Allison and the National Team Coach Finn Marsland, who will also assist with team support in Liberec. A pre-trip training camp is planned for the school and university holiday period at the end of September. Continue reading

Snowy Mountains Classic & Australian 15/30km Champs – Results

The 2012 Snowy Mountains Classic incorporating the Australian 15/30km Championship was held today at Perisher Valley. The winner of the Australian Championship 30km Freestyle was Alex Almoukov, just 22 seconds ahead of Chris Darlington. In the 15km Freestyle Brooke Darlington from Canada took the line honours, with Lescinska Grimmer second and the first Australian. Continue reading

Vic Ski Chase results updated

The Vic Ski Chase results have now been updated to include the Hotham to Dinner Plain and Rocky Valley Rush.

There are still two more Vic Ski Chase events to be run. On Sunday the Tullicoutty/St. Phillack Cup will be held at Mt. Baw Baw.   The last event/s in the series include the Joey Hoppet, Birkebeiner and Kangaroo Hoppet.

Don’t forget to sign up to be elligible to win a pair of Skikes.

Important Notice – 2012 Australian 15/30km will be senior selection race

The Ski & Snowboard Australia Cross Country Committee (SAXC) wish to advise that the Australian 15/30km Championship to be held this Saturday August 11 in conjunction with the Snowy Mountains Classic will be counted as a selection race for the senior National Team. This is in contrast to information that was posted on the AUSXC calendar page last week and to information distributed verbally by SAXC members during July.

SAXC apologises for any inconvenience caused by this late notification. On-line entry for the event is available via the NSW/ACT online event page.

Vic Ski Chase: Win a pair of Skikes

Tullicoutty/St. Phillack Cup

This Sunday (12th) the Tullicouty/St. Phillack Cup will be run at Mt. Baw Baw.  There is sufficient snow at present and more on the way.

This event is part of the Vic Ski Chase.  Don’t forget to register at Participants will be entered in the draw to win a pair of Skikes (see forthcoming announcement).
