2013 Race Licences and SSA Membership Due

Race Licences for 2013 are now due and available via the Ski & Snowboard Australia website.

All skiers who wish to compete in National or NSW/ACT state championship events at open, junior, or masters level will need some form of SSA Registration. In particular all athletes requiring a FIS Licence should register ASAP via the SSA website if they want to be eligible for FIS points during the Australian winter.

There are three types of cross country race registration available:

Cross Country – Sport Racer – $27.50

Cross Country – National Racer – $82.50

Cross Country – International Racer – $148.50

Sport Racer registration includes Associate SSA Membership and is for skiers competing in Sports Class (including Masters) at Senior Championship events and all Junior (U/20) Championship events. Please note junior athletes wishing to be eligible for Senior ranking and Senior National Team selection will require ‘National Racer’ registration. Junior athletes requiring FIS registration will need to purchase ‘International Racer’ registration.

National Racer includes Individual SSA Membership and Cross Country Registration. This category is for athletes of all ages who wish to compete domestically in Australian Championships and NSW and ACT Championships. Competitors in this category are eligible for Senior National Ranking and Senior National Team selection.

International Racer includes Individual SSA Membership, National Cross Country Registration, FIS Registration and the SSA International Competition Licence. Applicants must be born in 1998 or earlier to be eligible for this registration. Please note that the ICL will only be activated once confirmation of insurance covering Cross Country Ski Races is provided to the SSA Office.

Some FAQs:

Do I need a licence to compete in Worldloppet events?

No licences are needed for Worldloppet events or most other citizen or loppet races around the world.

What if I want to compete in the Sport class and have SSA voting rights?

A Sport Licence does not enable SSA voting rights. Those people who wish to have full SSA individual membership and to compete in a Sport class should register first as a Non-Competitor and then upgrade to the Sport Cross Country Racer registration at no cost.

What should I do if I’m a Junior athlete?

If you are not interested in senior level National Team or Ranking, and you are not concerned with SSA voting rights, then you should register as a Sport Cross Country Racer. Junior athletes wishing to be eligible for senior National Ranking and senior National Team selection will require National Cross Country Racer registration. Junior athletes requiring FIS registration will need to purchase International Cross Country Racer registration.

What should I do if I’m a Masters athlete?

If you are not interested in a senior level National Team or Ranking, AND you are not concerned with SSA voting rights then you should register as a Sport Cross Country Racer. You can compete in the same championship events as the National Cross Country Racer and will be eligible to win and be placed in the age classes at these events. You are not eligible to be Australian champion and will not be listed in the open championship results.
