In addition, SSA will soon be calling for expressions of interest for an Athlete Representative on this committee.

Following the first meeting of the new committee SAXC has released the following statement:

The discipline review and formation of the new SAXC was a timely initiative by SSA. It has been a very worthwhile exercise for SSA to have a long-term strategic analysis of the function of SAXC.

The appointment of new members to the committee bring a wealth of experience and skills across a range of strategic areas. The inclusion of some notable past athletes combined with experienced coaches and administrators provide a very good mix to deliver long-term success across a broad range of areas.

It is also important to recognize and appreciate the work that has been achieved by previous members of SAXC. Some long-servicing members have been involved as Australia has taken some significant steps forward on the international stage. Our first World Cup Points, both men and women represented at the same Olympics and top 20 results at World Junior Championships have all occurred during the tenure of some of our recently retired committee members. Time served on SAXC is purely voluntary and it is with a great amount of gratitude that we can thank the previous members for their time served.

The new committee has recently commenced operations and over the next 6 months will constitute active sub-committees based on athlete development, coach education and development, high performance, rules and officials, events, fundraising and selection.  Persons with the appropriate expertise will be invited to join and contribute to the development and implementation of a clear strategy for the future across all areas of the sport administration.

Our general vision for the future is to increase participation  and develop talent at all levels within the athlete pathway from grassroots through to the highest international stage, with the ultimate target being to achieve long term elite international success . An essential component is the procuring of extra resources to support the ongoing development our athlete pathway programs, our athletes, our coaches, our events and officials supporting structures. Our aim is to build on our past achievements and to ensure cross country skiing is a vibrant, successful, sustainable sport in Australia for years to come.
