Casey Wright 16th at Swedish Junior Championships.

Australia has began its campaign at Swedish Junior Championships with a bang with two athletes finishing inside the top 30. Casey Wright skied what she described as the race of her life and had an especially strong finish to place 16th in a very competitive junior field of 84. Casey was very excited to have achieved such a positive result. She was just over one minute from winning and only around 45 seconds from finishing in the top 5.

Anna Trnka also skied a high quality race to finish in 26th. Anna skied the first half of the race well but tired towards the end. Anna was very happy with the result as it has her back in the form she was early in the season and being much closer to the top Swedish Juniors then a week ago in Pitea.

Xanthea Dewez was the third Australian and finished in 59th. This was a strong effort from an athlete who has only been in Europe for 3 days. Although she commented that she felt like an ‘unco’ for most of the race she was happy to have had the race experience and feels much more confident going into World Juniors.

This wraps up a very successful day for the Australian Junior Ski Team. So much so that we have had to re think our goals from having athletes finish in the top 20 to having athletes finish in the top 12. This means having and Australian make the semi-finals in tomorrows sprint. A big ask but after today anything is possible.

  1. Keep up the good work!

  2. Glad to see Aussies doing so well in XC-skiing. Very good results considering that the winner Sofia Henriksson is a definite gold medal contender on 5k classical, For instance she was only 68 sec behind Kalla last weekend 10 k classic.

Looking forward to more good aussie results. Cheers from Sweden!
