Casey Wright and Anna Trnka top 20 in Swedish Jr Champs Sprint

Casey Wright

Casey Wright qualified and finished 13th and Anna Trnka qualified 19th and finished 17th n today’s skate sprint race at the Swedish Junior Championships. Xanthea Dewez finished in 33rd. This was another fantastic result for the Australian Junior Team having two athletes in the top 20.
The day started cold and thus the race organisers decided to delay the start 2 hours with the hope that the race could be held in temperatures above -17 degrees. The weather obliged and at 11am the junior girls started with all three Australian Juniors ranked in the top 30. (The u18 and u20 were separated for today’s race). Casey for the second day in a row skied a fantastic race to qualify in 13th and make her first sprint final series for the winter. Anna was also happy with her placing sneaking into the top 20 in 19th place. Xanthea, her fourth day off the plane was frustrated with her inability to go fast and happy to see her race weekend finish in the morning.

In the heats Casey had a slow start but worked hard up the two climbs to move into fourth place. She then continued to up the place to catch third place and sprint past to be third fastest in her heat. Anna also had a slow start and managed to work her way though the field to finish fourth in her heat. Although final results are yet to be published it is expected that both girls held their rank to finish in the top 20.

Top 15 get prizes and today Casey Wright got to top her fantastic day of racing by standing on the extended podium with some of the best skiers in Sweden and maybe the world.

Full results will be available at or

Tomorrow Casey will race a 10km skate mass start before the team drives back their home base in Ostersund.
