Level 0 Coach Courses 2014

Cross Country Skiing Coach Level O courses will be held in Mt Beauty, Melbourne and Sydney from March to May. The courses are designed for coaches, teachers and parents working with athletes at interscool level and focusses on dryland preparation for the winter. Training techniques covered include ski walking, ski bounding, ski specific strength and roller skiing. Participants will come away with the latest technical knowledge, skill development progressions and 3 easy to follow lesson plans to help engage and prepare athletes for when the snow starts falling.

10:00 – 11:00 am Circuit strength
11:00 – 11:30 am break
11:30 am – 1:30 pm Roller ski techniques, skating and classical
1:30 – 2:30 pm Roller ski trial, a chance to try out what you have learnt and get tips on your own technique from athletes and coaches.

2014 Australian Rollerski Championship – April 12

The Australian Rollerski Championship will be on again this year in Canberra, on Saturday April 12. The event format will be the same as the past two years – Freestyle Sprint, Freestyle Criterium, and an uphill Classic Time Trial. Click on the link below for the event flier in PDF format. The event is supported by Snowgum Wodonga – Australia’s #1 stop for rollerski equipment – and is also a fundraiser for the Amelia McGuiness Foundation.

Entries will be taken from 9:00am on the day out at the Criterium Circuit at Stromlo Forest Park, with the first event set to start at 10:00am. The first two events will be held there, while the third will be on bike path in Cook. To assist with organisation, if you are planning to enter please email to finn.marsland@gmail.com.

In conjunction with the rollerski events on this day, the SSA XC National Team is hosting a viewing of cross country skiing video footage from the recent 2014 Sochi games. All participants in the events and other cross country skiing enthusiasts are welcome. Final details are to be confirmed, however the preliminary plan is for the viewing to take place from 4:00-5:00pm at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Half an Adventure

After 93 days of travelling, I’m finally back in warm and sunny Melbourne, having moved into a share house and spent probably 12 hours putting together the IKEA furniture which is filling my room. Time for one last post before an extended break…


Although I went into February expecting not to do any racing, and had the sole aim of getting some training done with a team, I decided to ask the group coach, Michi, if it would be possible to accompany to the team to the next lot of European Cup races. Since one of the girls was sick, there was a seat in the car for me, and I was very kindly offered wax support from the German Ski Association (DSV).
