Skike Australia Victorian Ski Chase Update – Event 1

On Saturday 5th July the first of the Skike Australia Victorian Ski Chase events, the Birkebeiner Classic, took place.  Many thanks to the Birkebeiner Ski Club for putting on another great event.

The waxing was a real challenge with a mix of wet snow and drizzle falling in the lead up to the race, and the tracks became glazed during the event.  Rumour has it that covered klister gave the most successful combination of grip and glide.

Only those people registered by Sunday 6th of July are included so far.  More names will be added to the results as additional people register.

The early leaders in the women’s competition are Anna Trnka, Emma Pollard and Casey Wright, and in the Men’s competition Kevin Tory, Nick Montgomery and Phillip Bellingham.  So far every person aged 25 and under is in the running for the cash prizes.  This may not last long so make sure you keep your calendar clear for future events.

The next event is the Snow Trek and Travel High Plains Tour at Falls Creek this Saturday 12 July.  Race start 11am, 10/5/2.5 Km (Freestyle technique).  If you are pondering which distance to ski, remember the longer distances earn more points.
