Rocky Valley Rush is Classic

The Rocky Valley Rush and Sun Valley Ramble will be held this Sunday August 14 at Falls Creek. Race organisers BNSC would like to bring to the attention of participants that the races will be held in Classic technique, as indicated on the online entry page, as there was an error on an earlier version of the AUSXC race calendar.

Entries can be made online, or also on the day between 8:30 and 9:00am (with a $10 late fee). The Falls Creek groomers have worked hard over the past week to get the Sun Valley loop open again and the current plan is to run the course on a reverse Joey Hoppet loop.

Ski de Femme will also be hosted by BNSC at Falls Creek on Saturday August 13, registration for the free skating and classic technique clinics for women is available via Eventbrite.

Art Show Opening at The Stables after AUS Sprint Championship

New Work by Evelyna Helmer

Following the Australian Sprint Championship at Perisher on Saturday August 6, The Stables at Perisher will host both the presentations and the opening of a new exibition by Evelyna Helmer.

Featuring a series of Oil Paintings and Prints, all sale proceeds from the show will support the Helmer XC Scholarship Fund. The presentations are scheduled to start at 1:30, with afternoon tea provided by The Stables from 2:15 pm. Donations made for the afternoon tea will go towards the Sverre Kaaten Nordic Shelter fundraising.

Samples of some of the paintings are included in this linked flyer – please help to spread the word and come to support these two worthy fundraising causes. The artwork will remain on display at the The Stables through until October 3.

Ski Orienteering at Perisher

As part of NSW XC Week the 2016 NSW Ski-O Championships will be held at Perisher Valley on Sunday 7th August, organised by Big Foot, Perisher X Country and BushFlyers. Anyone who skis or orienteers (or both or even neither) is welcome to come and have a crack.

Ski orienteering is big in Scandinavia and various parts of Europe and North America, but August 7th at Perisher is the only opportunity to give it a try in Australia this winter. For skiers planning to race the Australian 5/10km Championship or the Boonoona Open, here’s an opportunity to do 2-3 events on the same day and get full value from one trip to the snow. More information and online registration is available via the Big Foot website.

AUS Rollerski Championship Update

As posted back in January, the 2016 Australian Rollerski Championship will be held in Canberra on April 9. Due to feedback from previous years and several requests some new categories will be held this year. The event categories are now as follows:

  • Open (for participants with racing wheels)
  • Championship (for participants with normal training wheels)
  • Sport (for new rollerskiers, held over a shorter distance)
  • Junior U16 (born 2001 or later)
  • Junior U12 (born 2005 or later)

Online registration via SSA is the preferred method for all entries, although entries on the day will still be accepted for an additional $5 fee.

While it is still anticipated that there will still be be variations in rollerski wheel speed, the Open category will separate out those either with racing wheels or inline-skates. The brand of rollerskis will be published on the result list as done in previous years.
